LABOUCHERE ON THE MELBOURNE EXHIBITION
* [Pjjr Pbbss Association.] Mr Hy. Labouchere, m "Truth," publishes a severe a r ticle on the management of the Melbourne Exhibition. He compares the management with what he calls " the South Kensington gang," and alleges that a certain ring has been farmed f>r the purpose of charging exhibitors for space for which they were previously not supposed to have to pay. London, Anpnat 30. It is believed that " Truth's " strictures on the management of the Melbourne Exhibition are founded on facts. The Lancashire Committee ap pointed an agent to proceed to Melbourne to look after the exhibits, and to meet the cost, charged each exhibitor with a proportion according to the space allotted him. Many of the exhibitors objected to the charge, on the grounds that they had their own agents at the Exhibition, but the charge was made compulsory, notwithstanding the fiat issued by the Melbourne Com missioners that space was allotted free. The Committee went so far as to threaten the exhibitors that no peace would be allowed them unless the charges were paid. An article appears m " Truth," m which it is stated that the Victorian Civil Service must be over-manned, if the officials have leisure to manage the Melbourne Exhibition. === I
