Some time since we published a small paragraph on the unsatisfactory nature of much of the jam retailed In the coloay. This reached Messrs Kirkpatrick and Co. , of Nelson, and they went to work In a very praotical fashion to prove that the jams manufactured by the firm were of the beßt quality. Two cases of assorted jams were sent to this office, with a request that we would thoroughly test the jam along with other brands, and give our opinion. v7e are hwppy to atatp, frankly and fully that, we have beeo very much surprised, as prior to the receipt of Messrs Kirkpatrlok's gift we were unaware tbat New Zealand could boaat of au Industry of whtcb It has so much reason to be proud. The various aorta of jam were tested by a number of persons, who compared the samples with other brands, and the general verdict is .hat not only are Messrs .K.trkpatrlck'a productions far aud away better than any other New Zealand brand wa can obtain, bni they are snpe'rio'r to -hSngltßh jams m being fresher. The nearest approaoh to the excellence of the Nelson jam was that contained m tins bearing the name of a Tasmsnlan firm, bat even m this comparison the Nelßon artiole came out a lone way best. We are pleased to be able to give unstinted praise to a genuine looal industry, the produot of whloh we can unreservedly recommend to consumers. All of the many personß who have tested the samples are lc#d iv tbetr praise, aud we must uareaervedfy'bongrj&tulate Measra Kirkpatrick and Co. upon turning opt a gen nine fruit jam fit to {/race ibe tables •arT" ple.ifie the palates of the most lnxnrlonH and fuatldioua. — " Hawke'a Hay Herald," .fuiy "l&tlj.
