SHIPPING CASUALTIES. WRECK OF THE COLONIST. CAPTAIN AND TWO SEAMEN LOST.
(per press association.) Wellington, August 31. The k toh Oolonißt bound from Ly.tslton to Waitara, went ashore off the old pilot station about eleven this morning. Three of the crew including the captain, whose name m unknown, were drowned. There is one survivor who states that the vessel loßt her rudder off Cape Campbell yesterday. The captain deeded run for Wellington before a southerly gale, and made the old pilot station this morning and dropped anchor. The vessel rode at anohor for a short time, and was riding safely when the Tarawera pawed aboat 9.30. About an hour afterwards the anohor dragged, and the veesel went on to the rocks m a heavy sea and immediately broke up. The crew consisted of the captain and three men, all of whom were drowned but one. Ihe captain's body has been washed aabore.
