» I , On Wednesday the yards were fairly well filled with stock In all the different departments. The weather was beantlfally fine, end the attendance of those Interested quite up to the average. Fat Cattle — The beat entry of cattle that hare been yarded for some time past, one or two lots being qatte ap to show form. A line of steers and heifers, bred and fed by Mr John Ferguson, of Halswell, and offered by Messrs Bennetts Bros on hi* account, were the very perfection ef feeding and breeding ; they met with keen competition, the heaviest bullock being purchased by Messrs Hopkins and Co for £12, the next going to the same firm at £9 10s ; other steers fetohed £8 153, and the heifers np to £8 ss. A line of heifers on account of Mr W. Blrdllng, offered by Messrs Matron < and Oo , were very prime, fetching up to £8 5s per head. Medium-weight steers fetched at from £5 10] to £6 15s, heifers and fat oowb £4 5s to £6 2s 6d, being at from 17s 6d to 21s per 1001 b, very prlmest a shade more. Store Gattlk — A fairly tramerons entry, but only a few lots that could be called lines of any consequence, and those mainly young cattle. Values appeared to be unaltered. There were the usual odd lota of store cows, eto. A line of 24 twenty-one-months-old heifers sold at from £2 Is to £2 3s fid, and a line of yearlings at 17s. Dairy Cattle — A pretty numerous entry, mostly second-rate cattle. Little or no alteration In values took place ; if anything, prloea were lower. Good cows In Immediate profit sold at from £6 5s to £7 53, seoond rate sorts from £3 10a to £5. Fat Sheep— A fairly full market ; quality on the whole not tha very best ; a few exceptions, however, The demand was fairly keen, export buyers competing 1 for all suited to their wonts, and late 1 values show litttle or no alteration. The ; prtmeat croßsbroi aold at from 14a 9& to 16s 9d, a few selling as hleh as 20a ; 1 medium weights sold at from 12s to 13s 6d, » and merino wethers from lie 6d to 12s Bd, ■ being at from 2£d to 3d per ib, acoording as the quality varied | Fat Lambs— The first consignment of ' the season oame to hand this morning, i Messrs Mataon aold for Air M, By an six ' very prime lamba at 13a to 15b and Messrs » Bennett Bros sold for Mr Reeoe six up to 1 13a per head. » Stobb Sheep— A fair entry, principally 3 good lots. The demand was again keen, f all lines selling at quite late values.
