Ashburton Tweed Suits made to measure. Ashburton Tweeds, Blankets, Flannels, Rags, and Shirtings guaranteed. Groceries, China, Glass, Earthenware, and Fancy Goods. Robert Alcorn SAUNDERS' BUILDINGS. JAM PRIMP. Some time since we published a small paragraph en the unsatisfactory nature of much of the jam retailed m the colony. This reached Messrs Ktrkpatrlck and Co., of Nelson, and they went to work m a very praotlcal fashion to prove that the jams manufactured by the firm were of the best quality. Two cases of assorted jams were sent to this office, with a request that we would thoroughly test the jam along with other brands, and give oar opinion. VV*e are h»ppy to state, frankly and fully ma* we uave beep very niucb surprised, as prior to the receipt of Messrs Kirkpatrlck's gift we were unaware that JSew Zealand could boast of an industry of which It has so much reason to be proad. The various sorts of jam were tented by a namber of persons, who compared the samples with other brands, and the general verdict is that not only are Messrs Klrkpatrtck's productions far aijd away better than any other New Zealand brand we can obtain, bat they »re superior to English jams In being fresher. The nearest approach to the excellence of the Kelson jam was that contained m tins bearing the name of a Tasmanlan firm, bnt even In this comparison the Nelaon article came out a long way best. We are pleased to be able to give unstinted praise to a genuine local industry, the prodnot of which we can unreservedly reoommend to consumers. All of the many persons who have tested the earn plea are loud to their praiaa, and we must unreservedly congratulate Messrs Ktrkpatrlck and Co. upon turning out a gennlna fruit jam fit to grace the tables and pie**Be the * palates of the moat luxariuoa and fastidious. — " Hawke's Bay Herald," ",l uly 10th. Samples of Kirkpatrick and Go's " X " brand of jam have been forwarded to as and we are free to confess that they appear to be m every way excellent and ■a they become better known In the local market will meet with much appreciation from the heads of households. The maker asserts that none but the purest fruits grown In Nelson are used m his manufactures, and we are content to accept tha/t AMUrance* Certainly thn jaron poßfleas a richness anQ fresriueaa ut flavor that bears that~aßßertion oat>.— DqnedlD ' • btary J uly 3, "
