A special meeting of shareholders of the Bank of New Zealand is called fci Ootober 3rd to receive the report of the Shareholders' Committee and to consider the reoommendation of the Directors to the Committee that new shares of the' nominal valne of one million be oreatefly and each amount faded as may be deemed expedient. The bootmakers employed on pieoework at Garrett Bros' faotory have gone ont on strike, though, an stated by Messrs Garrett, they are absent with the o 'nsent of the firm pending & settlement of the dispute. At a meeting last night the Operative Bootmakers' Union passed a resolution deolailng the town on strike, i and a levy of 5 per cent was made on the earnings of members m employment, it being also decided that the men who have left work shall be paid strike wages by the Union as follows : — married men, 25s per week j single men, 20s. Law was committed to take his trial at the Supreme Oonit for Indecent exposure to young girls. Kaye was elected president. A motion waa passed in favor of a rednotton of bids at the London wool sales from halfpenny to r farthing.
