John Baldwin, editor of the "Indepen dent," was committed for trial yesterday on two charges of criminal libel, on the Informstlon of John Boorke, Town Clerk, and Secretary and Treasurer for the Barbor Board. Ball was allowed, £200 on each charge, His wife Flora Baldwin, whose name appears on the imprint as as proprietress, wes brought np on two similar charges to-day, and committed for trial, ball of £25 being allowed. Seedraan, of Waikawau, for being the owner if sheep infected with scab and neglecting to give the necessary uotloo were dismissed by the 'Magistrate. The Ro'omabana at 3 a m. snapped all her moorings, carrying away one wharf pile. Fortunately steam waajap, and the vetaal wad secured again witnent damage. She sailed at 1 pm. to-day with 35 passengers, equal to 278£ adults There wan no damage tithe other shipping m the port.
