ASHBURTON LIVE STOCK MARKET
Mr D. Thomas (late o! Matsou, Cox, and Go.) reports upon the live stock market for the Ashburton District for the week ending for August 21st, as follows : — On Tuesday at the Aahburton Yards I held my usual weekly sale of sheep, cattle, and pigs. The total entry for the day comprises about 1400 sheep, of which I sold 991, and 9 head of cattle. The wet weather of the past j three weeks had a most depressing influence on the entries, and many lines that should have come forward were unable to travel, still those that did come met with a ready sale. Beef of good quality met with a better market, and I expeot to see stores and beef both rise m value m the future. I sold fat merino ewes, 8s; crossbred ewes, 12s 3d, 12s 4d; wethers, 15s 6d; crossbred ewes m lamb, lls 6d to 12s 9d ; crossbred hoggets, 9s sd. In beef— Fat heifers, £5 12s 6d, £5 17fl 6d, £4 10s, £3 10s, £3 7s 6d. Oo Saturday we held a clearing sale of Mr Horsfall's horses, stook, implements, and grain, the whole of whioh were sold. Doublefurrow ploughs, £4 15s ; harrows, £3 ; oats, Is B§d to Is lOd; seconds oats, Is Bd. Sundries at good prices. At Methven we held our first sale of stook and sundries, when a fair entry came forward, and, despite the weather, we had a good sale, most of the entries being sold at satisfactory prices. _____________
