Mr Seddon, the captain of the Bogliih Football team, was drowned m the Hunter Rlvor, at Maltland, this afternoon. He had gone out rowing In an outrigger, which oapßlzid with him, and before assistance could be rendered he sank. In consequence of his death the match arr&uged to take plaoa to-morrow between tho English team and Northern District i has been postponed. The sad news recorded above will be read with general regret by all who came m oontsot with the English team m Ohristchurob. Mr R. L. Seddon was a well known Noc^h Oonnty forward, 26 yaara of age. Re was a powerfully bullfc yjug man, sft ll£in high, and weighed 12 stone. At Home he played chiefly with the Bcoughton Ringers, to whloh Olub he was wonderfully naefnl. He recently joined Swinton. For six yoara Seddon had been one of the best county forwards, aud also played for the North against the South m 1835 6, 1836-7, and twice last season. la 1885-7 he played for-England against Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. He was a splendid all-ronnd forward, and had no superior m the North of England. -"Preaa."
