The House resumed at 7.30 p.m, , THE PUBLIC WORKS STATEMENT. Implying to Mr the Premier £ Bald that the Pnblio Worka Statement f would be delivered after the Native Bills ' and the San Francisco Service were disposed of. The Premier intimated that at the request of a Native deputation he had consented to postpone the Native Bills till to morrow, but no further, NATIVES AT THE BAR. In reply to 81r George Grey he aald that there would be no objection to hearing the Maori interests spoken of at the bar cf the House so long aa they appointed one or two spokesmen. In reply Mr Taiwhanga gave formal notice that be intended to stonewall the Native Bills m Committee. Messrs Flah and Simuol opposed the appearance of Maoris at the bar. Messrs Carroll, Orraond, and others supported the proposal. Mr Ballance aald the spokesmen ought to be representative of the whole Maori mind, not of a section only. In view of the technical nature of the legislation proposed, overy consideration should be Bhown to the Natives, who would naturally find it very difficult io understand, IN COMMITTEE*. After some farther discussion progress was reported on the following Bills after they had been formally taken m Committee : — The Customs Duties Consolidation Act Amendment, Proclamation Validation Compensation, and Mackenzie Land Bills. SECOND READINGS. The Interpretation Bill, Land Transfer I Act Amendment, and Native Contracts and Promises Bill was read a second time without debate, also the Post Office Foreign Paroelp, and Distrlot Courts Act Amendment BUI; BILLS ADVANCED. The following Bills were passed through the remaining stages ;— Customs Duties Consolidation Aot Amendment, Proclamation Validity, Sheep Act Amendment, Robs Compensation, Mackenzie Lmd, River Boards Aot Amendment, Post iffice Foreign Parcels, District Oonrt Amendment and Tobacco Aot Amendment, Several other measures were advanced one or more fitnges, and the Hoaae cone *t 10.10,
