Sydney, Augußt 6. There is little hope of settling the shipping difficulty. The owners have merely acknowledged the receipt of the last letter from the Union, regretting the position taken up by the latter.

Replying to a deputation from the Australian National Association, Sir Thomas Mcllwraith, Premier of Queensland, who is visiting Sydney, said the Association did not advocate immediate separation of the colonies from Great Britain, but that was a step which must come sooner or later. When separation was accomplished common kinship and common language would still bind them to the mother country. What they desired now was that Australia should have the right to make her own laws, and repeal those which had become obsolete. The Queensland National Association, said Sir Thomas, numbers over 3000 members.'
