DEATH OF GENERAL SHERIDAN.

Washington, Aognst 5. General Sheridan, Commander of the Army, died to-day, aged 57.

From " Men of the Tims " we learn that Philip Henry Sheridan was born In Somerset, Ohio, on March 6tb, 1833. He was educated at the Military Academy »t West Point, graduating In 1853, and being assigned to the Infantry served on frontier duty for two years, and m Oregon from 1855 to 1861 He rapidly rose to fame as a soldier, and held an important position In American affairs at the time of ad death.
