THE MIDLAND HAIL WAY.
The news that the contract for the construction of the Midland Railway has been signed and sealed, will be welcomed by all Canterbury. There has been some unnecessary delay over the matter, the Government and the Directors at Home not being of one opinion regarding one or two clauses m the contract. These haye # it appears, been settled to the satisfaction of both sides, and the undertaking will be pushed on with every possible speed. The good likely to follow the construction of the railway is of a manifold nature, and it may be considered certain that the provincial district of Canterbury directly, and the colony indirectly, . will benefit from the speedy opening of the line.
