J' Barr Brown, a well known resident of Waluku, died a.mewbat suddenly yesterday. At the Polioe Court to-day a man named Harry Seabrook waa fined £5 and costs for dlaturblng the Salvation Army aervloe at Drury Flat recently. The esse of Fenwlck, tbe alleged lunatio, was again before the Supreme Court to day, when Judge Gillies deoided that the man waa of unsound mind, but not Incapable of managing himself or hla affairs.
Wellington, Auguat 3. The new ateamer, Brunner, Intended for the West Coast trnde, arrived at Hobart yesterday, and was to leave for Greymouth to day. A speolal meeting of the Board of Education was held thia morning, to consider whether the Minister of Education should ba requested to appoint a Commlaaioner to enquire Into the oharges of Immorality m State sohoola, aa alleged by the " Times " and " Mail." After diaoui--.iton a motion was oarrled — " That thia Board, having examined Into the charges of Immorality, made against our public ■ohooli by the " Tlmeß ' ? and «' Mall," la of opinion that there la no foundation whatever for theae charges, and therefore no necessity for farther enquiry." Tbe Native Minister haa been advised that the Native who waa the cause of the recent outbreak near Whangarel, haa been banlabed to the Hoklanga diatrlot. An Immediate and peaceful solution of the whole difficulty la expeoted. Mr Wm. Beetbam, an old settler, died to-day, aged 70. He leaves a large grown up family, one of who, Mr Goo. Beetham, la member for Maaterton. As an artlat, the late Mr Beetham baa made hla mark In the colony.
