A strong card which the Seamen's Union intended to pay m connection with the Mariposa difficulty was the refusal to supply the vessel with coal. The Union now is much astonished to find a cargo has been secured. In anticipation of further difficulty the consignees are advertising for forty men to assist m discharging the steamer. The Maritime Council are appealing to the workmen to decline the work.
A cargo of coal for the R.M.S. Mariposa has been purchased on behalf of the American Consul at Port Illawara. The Company who supplied the coal informed the Maritime Labor Council they were unaware who the coal was for. The latter disbelieve the statement, and warn the Company that if the cargo is placed on board the Mariposa the Council will consider the Company adverse to the employment of white labor. It is expected the coal will be put on board despite the Labor Council.
