UPPER ASHBURTON ROAD BOARD

The usual monthly meeting of tho above Board w*e held on Thursday, August 2nd, 1838. A'l the members were pretent; CORRESPONDENCE. Corresppndence was read from (1) Mr Joseph Canning asking to he relieved of water on Creek road — Resolved that a larger pipe be put m at a higher level. (2) Tho Property Tax Commissioner wrote a king that the usual facilities be afforded to persons who intend acting as assessors. (3) From the Controller and AuditorGeneral, enoloeing bulanoe sheet certified to. The report oE overseer was read and a statement showing the position of each ward as under, and the probable rate reciuired: —

It was resolved that at the next meeting of the Board to strike a rate as above payable m one sum on September 11th, 1888, and that tho necessary notice be given. The overeeer reported that all the works had been attended to us ordered from last meeting, and that at the present time he was engaged m repairing damage done to fords, crossings and roads by flood.

It was resolved that the Counly Council bo asked to contribute half the cost of removing shingle from storm water drain on Maginess' corner as the drain ia now quite blocked .

The offioer was dlreoted to get pipes put In at Cannings and al.so to interview the owners of land lower down and get them to clean out their creeks. Tenders were ordered to be oiled for the work.

It was resolved that a crossing of gorse be pnt m on the north s'.de of the river at Raffles crossing.

The Clerk reported that the books, property, els, of the Board -vere all made up aud ready lot delivery.

It was resolved that applicati ins be invitod for the position by next Board day. The present officer undertook to look after the work for the time being.

The rate Hat of defaulters was here laid on the table and It was decided to pias a cheque for the necessary amount of Court fees and sue the lot m one batch.

Poisoned wheat was directed to be delivered to various ratepayers.

Acoounts amounting to £50 83 6d were passed for payment and the Board adjourned to August 27, 1888.
