CHIEF JUDGE OF NATIVE LAND COURT.

In the Home on July 10th Mr Walker asked leave to postpone the following question until Friday : If the Chief Jadge of the Native Land Court Is a Civil servant, and, contingent on the above question being answered In the affirmative to ft.sk Mr Speaker if it is not an infringement of the privileges of the House that a letter from a Oivll servant, commenting on words uttered m debate by a member of the House, should be placed on the table by command ?

Mr M, J. S. Macker zle ssld It just occurred to him that by postponing this question It would lose the character of privilege altogether. He had not specially looked np the question, but he had a clear reoolleotlon that it was the essence of privilege that It ahonld refer to something juet arisen, and which would brook no delay In being brought under the notice of the House.

Mr Walker aaid of course he was In the hands of the House, but, at the same time, he thought, considering the question was addressed to Mr Speaker, and that honorable gentleman who now filled the chair was the gentleman whose words were the aubjeotmatter of the question, it would be most convenient that they should wait until Mr Speaker waa m the •hair.

Mr Barron said the honorable member might now aak the firat part of the question, and then, if necessary, give notice of the Becond part, which, as a question of privilege, depended upon the reply to the first part. Question postponed.
