Wellington, Jaly 31. At the Admiralty Court, Captain Robertson, late master of tho Oreti, applied for an order against the owners of the steamer for costs, incurred by him m working the vessel. Judgment wai given for Robertson with coats. Leave to appeal to the Privy Council was granted, Successfully Floated. Tbe ship Pleione, which has been whore at Waikanae beach about four months and which was floated a few days ago, was successfully towed into the harbor this morning and taken to tbe patent slip for overhaul.

The purchase' of 40 or BOlbs of tow by the accused was proved, also the discovery of a watch and chain carefully planted, though he had said the robbers took It. Goods were found m the Wesleyan Church grounds on the morning after the fire though accused had said ail had been burnt m the housa. He was further remanded last evening. This morning Constable Cooper, from Masterton, certified to the accused as Alexander Smith, carpenter, who had resided at Masterton 18 months Other evidence of contradictory statements 1% accused w»i given. He was remanded till Saturday for the production of an absent witneiß and a document. Great interest li taken m the case and the Ceurt was crowded.
Local Option Poll. Timabxt, July 31. The result of the Local Option poll at Makikihl on Saturday was "a block vote •gainst increases. Only two voters turned op and one voted Informally. A Dishonest Milkman. A milk vendor to-day was fined 40s and costs of Court and analysis, for selling milk adulterated 30 per cent of skimmed milk. The Otago Central Railway. OtTKEDiKr, July 31. A large meeting at Naseby last night carried strong resolutions against Mr Pyke'i Bill. Some extraordinarily strong language waa used agaiast Mr Pyke.
