PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.

(P3R PBESS ASSOCIATION.)

Wellington, July 30. Me Yerrall, the new member for Ashley, Arrived yesterday by the Wanaka and will bo sworn In tomorrow probably. The Attorney-General and Solicitor* General are still engaged m examining the last proposals of the Midland Railway Company. It ia believed that their report will be of & favorable nature, bat nothing is definitely known as yet. It io expeoted that the Otago Central business will monopolise most of to-day'i sitting, but should this not be the case it is most probable that either the Estimates or Native Bills will be gone on with. It is anticipated that the Native Bills will be strongly opposed by the Maori members, who talk of stonewalling them, especially the Native Land BUI. It is said that Government will put those Bills upon the Order Paper, and finish them before going on with the Estimates. A meeting of Native members and Native Chiefs now m town was held this morning when it was derided to stonewall all the the Native Policy Bills unless the taxation clauses m the Native Land BUI are altogether abandoned. A telegram was received to-day by the Under Secretary for the Native Department to the effect that everything was still quiet at Whangarel and that » number of Influential chiefs have arrived upon the scene of the land dispute. The opposing parties have offared to leave their dif« ferenoe to be finally deoided by these oblefs and the Native Minister.

The Otago Central Railway reaolationi were again under consideration by the Cabinet this morning, bot no definite oat* come resulted. Ministers moot once more at 2 o'olook, and at 2,30 when the House meets, of oonrse, some Ministerial statement will bo made. 1 believe It will then be found that Government will deoline to entertain any proposals concerning the line and that the poaltlon will simply revert to quo ante. After reasonable diaonsslon, the Impression la that the motion to report progress on the Bill will be carried and the matter thus bo allowed to drop, which will have the effeot of killing the Bill this aesalon. I understand that If the Otago Central trouble is disposed of datlsfaa-orlly to day) there la no reason why "the J^ublio WoVki Statement should not be delivered to-day.
