ADDINGTON LIVE STOCK MARKET

At Addlngton on Wednesday there was a fair attendance of buyers, and the weather whs trie in the morning, but s'iujh'ly o-eioast, and with threatening uky in ?he aftarnoon.

Oattle — There was only an ordinary entry of fat cattle and nothing extra prime at that. The demand was not spirited. A line of neat little Devon heifers, sold by 0. Newton, brought from £5 10b to £6 12a 6i, and for these there was fair competition, but all round the beef market was alug^lßh and the demand Bplritless. Beef (prime) per 1001b abont 18? 6d for very best down to Hh for ordinary, and oven less tban that for poorer sorts. There was a f sir entry of calves for veal, but no perceptible rise or fall oan be noted, 30s being the top prloa. There was about the usual entry of store cattle, for which a fair demand wss manifested. Yearlings brought up to £1, and .'8 months to two years old brought from £1 10a to £2. The best of the market were odd lots with nothing calling for special notice. There waa not a great many dairy oattle, and very few good oows. As high as £8 5a was obtained for good animals In immediate profit, bui | oows a good bll off calving were slow of sale, and ordinary sorts were a drug ln the market.

Sheep— There was a good entry of sheep* all round. The main bulk comprised fat sheep, many of which were very superior. As high as 24*, 23s 6i, 18a 6d, and 17s 6d, was obtained for prime crossbred wethers. These were exceptional prices, and a line of suberb merinos from Leonard White's, Rakaia, hronght up to a well-deserved 15s. Crossbred wethers, take them at an average, were worth 14s 6d or 15?, and mutton 2_-d to 2£l per lb. Ewes were worth proportionally less when assured, and merino orossbred wethers were a trifle better on the average. There was a fair demand for store sheep, the aame anxiety to bny bong manifested tbat wbb evinced last week. Orossbred wethers brought 10a 5d to 16a, ewes 6s 6d to 13s 61, merino wethers 8i lid to 9a 53, ewes ss. Lambs broncht from 8s 6d to 9. 6d. Pios— There was a large entry of pigs, and a good demand, bnt prices cannot be quoted as showing much chance on last week. Stores fetched from 14s 6d to 26s and baooners from 35s to 48 i 6d. 3|d per lb may be quoted for best pork.
