r i I.PBK PRESS ASSOCIATION J [ Suaxim. July 23 An engagement took place near Wady Haifa. Four hundred dervishes attacked a detachment under Colonel Wodehouso, but were repulsed with grea* slaughter. It is reported here that Stanley has sent an ultimatum to the Mahdi. It is thought here that the Mahidi force is diminishing, m consequence of the report received to the effect that Stanley's force repelled several attacks made upon its position near JDarfour. < One hundred and fifty Egyptians flying from the dervishes were drowned m the Nile. The dervishes afterwards encountered the force under Colonel W odehoose, with the result previously chronicled.
