The Under-Secretary of the Native Department received a telegram this morning from Mr Olendon, R.M, of Whangarti, reterring to the Native outrage m that district. Mr Clondon states that he returned at 4 a.m. from tho scene of the disturbance, having, learned that two Natives of Taurau's parly were.- shot dead, and ono had his right arm shattered while one of Eru Hira'a party was killed tind another dangerously wounded, a third severely, aud a fourth elightly. Ho told Taurau that be must desist at onco, but fears that now he is roused he will not abstain. ■ Manuhori, the prophet, -has promised that his party shall remain quioUy at their Bettloment unless Taurau attackß then?. Mr Clendon does not think that any further collision will occur to-day, as the JSatives will bury their dead. A doctor who accompanied him to the settlement dreased the wounds of the injured rawa, and the Inspector of Polica is etill m the district.
