[rBR PEESS ASSOCIATION ] Capetown, Joly 13. Ihe accident m the De Beer's, Kimberley, was caused by ignition m the* shaft, preventing men working m the mine from getting out, and many were suffocated by the smoke. Forty three white men and 500 natives were rescued. The damage is estimated at £20,000. A quantity of dynamite was exploded m the mine, m order to clear the galleries from the dead . It is believed that the fatalities by the fire at De Beer's mine amount to 224, of which twenty-four are white men. Capetown, July J5 The fires m De Beer's mine are still burning, and all hopes of any others being rescued have been abandoned.
