NEW SOUTH WALES.
SIDNEY, July 19. A horrible murder has been committed at Waniring. A man named Reid chopped his wife on the head with a tomahawk, smashing m the skull. Reid, who is evidently insane, was immediately arrested, whereupon he coolly remarked " that he had chopped her until he was tired." A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Jackson, a well-known stockbroker of Newcastle, on a charge of extensive forgery of bills to the amount of several thousand pounds. It is stated that Jackson had large betting transactions with Holt, the exbanker, and being hard pressed by the latter for payment, forged the bills m order to stave off the crash which would Have followed his being posted as a defaulter. Jackson is supposed to have gone to Manilla, the capital of the Spanish settlement m the Philippine Island*
In the Legislative Assembly,, Mr T. P. Garvan, member for Eden, * has given notice to a motion censuring the financial policy of the Government. The Premier has declined to accept or treat the motion as one of want of confidence. Newcastle, July 19. A fire broke out to-day on board the American barque Minnie* Hive, and considerable damage to the vessel and cargo was occasioned before it waf subdued.
