The Mokau Case.

Judge Wilson deposed to having heard the application for the granting of lease to Jodoi, but it was declined on the ground of Insufficiency of rurvey, Messrs Motrin and James Russell were also examined as to certain statements made i 1 the House. The Commissioners proceeded to-d*y to Otarobaoga to take the evidence of Natives. 'Frisco Mail Steamers. Wellington, July 10 The Secretary of the General Post Office advises the departure of the s.s Mariposa from 'Frisco with the English mills of the 16th nit for Auckland on Ist Inst, one day late. The s.s. Zaalandla with the oolonial malls of the 18th ult arrived at San Francisco from Auckland on Bth Inst, the contraot date.
The Ship Plelone. The steamer Mana remained at* Waikanas standing by the stranded ship Plelone yesterday. The vessel has now been successfully floated, but In consequence of the high sea running it was not desirable to tow her off and her progress seaward had to be oheoked. She may now be got off anytime at high tide. Fire at Blenheim. Blenheim, July 19. A double fire broke out at 2.33 this morning. A Chinaman's oablnetmaker's plaoe was burned down, and while thla was going on a fire broke out m a fourroomed house a quarter of a mile t-ff. An extraordinary circumstance attending the latter, fire wis that the oooupler was accidentally found m the baok yard gagged and bound band and foot He ssld he had been overpowered by two burglars, bound and left on the kltoheo floor, and while the men were seit'ng fire to the plaoe he decamped. The story caused tremendous exoltement, but is only half credited , The insurances are:— £loo on the building In the Union, and £400 on tho furniture m the £onh British. In the Chinaman's case, £60 m the Equitable. Further developments of the fire are announced. A quantity of furniture and ■toff was found planted m the Wesleyan Churoh grounds, Documents were found on Longman proving he had just oome from Masterton not Melbourne as he said when arreted just before noon.
