A little after 1 a.m. a fire broke oat fn Collins jewellery chop and spread to Naphthali's, pawnbroker, and Goodwin's, botoher, m Hastings street. All three premises wete completely gntted. The insurance 6n Collins building is £230 In the Victoria, and stock £400 In the South BrlMsh, £250 m Imperial and £260 m Pioulx. Naphthall's and G>odwln'a shops were owned by the New Zealand Insurance Company, whloh runs Its own risk. Naphthali's stock is insured la the Norwloh Union for £300. The gaoler explained that prisoners about to be discharged played up so much that he felt obliged to bring this case before the justices. The prisoner's defenoe was that he got mad on account of another prisoner provoking him. He was sentenced to a month's hard labor. . "
