Wool—^ince the 29th 78,000 bales have been Bold. The sales have been unabated m spirit, and prices the best of the series. Superior merinos are hardening, fine crossbreds unchanged ; inferior sorts are irregular, and scoured are firmer. The sales will probably close on the 18th. The Antwerp sales open about the 24th. Consols 103-£, -^ ew Zealand 5 pea cent 106, 4 per .cent insoribed 98£. Weekly returns of the Bank of England published to-day, show the total reserve m notes and bullion to be £12,670,000 and the proportion of reserves to liabilities 42f being a decrease of £1,330,000 m total reserve and a decrease of 2£ per cent m pro* portion of reserves to liabilities.
The copper market is inactive, latest quotation £81 ss, Iron £43. ISugar is firm, German beet, 14 ; Java, 15s 9d. The stock of tallow on hand is 14,400 casks. Best mutton, 23s 9d ; best beef, 22b. Wheat, New Zealand, long berried, 33s 6d; Australian on spot, 345. Total quantity of wheat afloat for tho United Kingdom is 2,224,000 quarters and for |the§ continent 46,400 quarters. The American visible supply is 26,632,000 bushels. Most of the off coast cargoes have been sold.
The total number of bales catalogued since the opening of the present wool series is 149,000, which were sold with the exception of 6000 bales. Seventytwo thousand bales were taken for export.
