Wellington, July 13 A return of immigration to, and emigration from, tbe colony for last month eh owe that tho number o£ persons who arrived was 680, while 1898 took their departure, principally for Victoria. Dur- i ing the month, 104 Chinese arrived m the colony and none are reported as having loft. The Chinese immigration is included m the above figures.
Retrenching the Mayor. The City Council adopted a resolution that the Mayor's salary for the ensuing year bo 105 gnineaß instead of £300.
