Mr J, 0. PownaU, well known financial and coromlßßlon agent, died on Saturday night, aged seventy. Henry Jury, aged elgbty-elx, died suddenly yesterday. Ho was missed during the morning, and the bedroom door wbb barut m, when deceased was found In bed having apparently passed away In bis sleep. George McOombe, alias John McQalre, on a chirge of forging ?he name of James Mofrtenamen, sheep farmer, to a chtque for £6 10a, was to-day oommltted for trial. In the Supreme Oourt to-day the case Barnes v Drs Gillou ard Johnston was heard. The claim was £800 as damages for wrongfal treatment of plaintiff by defendant! while m their charge m the Wellington hospital m 1879. After hearing the evidence Mr Justice Kiohmon3 decided there was no cast) to go to the jury, and plaintiff was nonaaltod. Chbistohubch, July 9.
