Sir, — I will aek you to be good enough to publish, for the information of thoße interested, and the public generally, the enclosed correspondence, which arose out of the following circumstances :— On the 21st ult., at (he anniversary celebration of one of the J.O.G.T. Lodges of this town, the following resolution was carried unanimously, and J, as chairman of the meeting, was requested to Bend oopies of it to Meßsrs Walker, Steward, and Buxton, M H.Bs — " Besolved, that m the opinion of £his meeting, all plaoea m which intoxicating liquors are retailed, Bhould be placed under the direot control and supervision of the local Licensing Committees." In forwarding the above resolution to the gentlemen named, 1 explained that it was aimed more particularly at the so-oalled Schools of Arts or Working Men's Olube, and also included railway refreshment rooms, both of which institutions the temperance party desire to have brought under local control. In due course I received the enclosed replies from Messra W. 0. Walker and W. J. Steward; Mr Buxton, baß not replied to my letter.
