Hawera, July 5. A serious fire occurred m High atreet this morning. It waa first dleoovered at 4.15, when Robbins and Plerard a large iroomoccery and grooary store was found to be In fl lines. They were insured In the name of Archd Olarkson, Auokland, It is eald for £1000, but this Is not certain. Sotton'a stock, muoh of it joat to hand, wae Insdrad for £100 bat the value wai £3000, Robbing and Pia-ard'o building ia said to be insured for £500. and bo far as the insurance is known the Phot v'x has £400 bin the stock of ironmongery, and the North German haa £300 on tte grocery stock. Donnelly's stock wan uninsured. The building was Insured for £100. Considerable loss was Inflicted on the adjoining shops, and large injury through salvage The fronts of the buildings across the street also oanght fire once or twice, and were scotched and Injured by the fire. The fire was subdued at 6 o'olook, having lasted about an hour and a half. Had the night not been calm and froßty the fire must have swept half the town.
