AN UNFORTUNATE PRESSMAN.
The "Toronto Globe" announces the death of Mr Georgo Eyvel, of the Canadian "Hansard" staff, and one of tbe best known journalists of the Dominion, from the effects of a most 1» men table series of events. Ho waß going home alone one very cold night, about four weeks ago when he was set upon by three men and sandbagged. He was rendered unconscious by at least two heavy blows, and was then robbed by bis assailants, who even took tbe overshoes from his feet. He lay unconscious for about four hours, then recovering, fonnd his hands frtz-m and himself unable to get homo. He dragged himtelf to the nearest house, and being unable to find or reach the nearest bell rapped with his hands on the glass beside the r}oor. Not being able to attract attention, he rapped harder and broke the glass. This aroused the people of the house, who came down, and misapprehending the* situation Instead of taking him In kept him oqt of doors while somebody went to s drng store to telephone for the police. In due time two constables arrived. Mr Eyvel gave them bis name and address, bnt they, Instead of taking him home, took bim to the police station where he lay till 11 o'olock next morning, when he was taken home. On arriving there he was placed under medical care. Tbe utmost tbat surgical skill could do was done, but m vain. A few days ago parts of all the fingers of his left hand were removed, and a day or two afterwards throe £ngera of hlo right hans} were taken a*hyi Owing tb*h|a health having fc^en run down at tbe time of the occurrence Mr Eyvll'a constitution was unable to stand these severe shocks, and be sank until Monnay, when he dibd. He leaves a wife and three tm«U children « ' .
