PRISONERS AT KHARTOUM.
The Anti-slavery Society received a message that several Europeans are detained prisoners at Khartoum. One, Mr Slatter, is retained as the Mahdi's running footman ; another, Mr Cupton, is compelled to work on the arsenal, and a third, Mr Newfeldt, has been kept repeatedly chained, and occasionally was partially hanged. Another prisoner, who had been similarly tortured, succumbed. It is stated that 599 Egyptian troops are sufficient to rescue the remaining prisoners, and it js also asserted that many tribes would be glad of the opportunity of desertjng the Mahdi and throwing m their allegiance with the friendly Arabs.
