The meeting was originally intended to be held at noon but thia has bfan found to be an inconvenient hour, so three o'olock hat been substituted. At the Bink on Saturday evening there was again a very large attendance. The " turkey hunt " did not Jaet long, and Master Williams secured the prise, gome Beyen or eight youths oompeted. The dead turkey was suspended from the ceiling at Buch a height as could be conveniently reached, and .the competitors were blindfolded and brought into the ball, and turned round about and Bent on their search. Several collisions oocurred but no damage to heads or features resulted. It was resolved to give the scholars one week's holiday from Friday, 29th ult,, to Monday, the 9 h instant. The following are the Hospital returns for the month of June, 1888 :— ln Hospital Ist of month, 8 ; admitted, 11 ; dißoharged, 9 ; died, 1; remaining m hospital Ist July, 1888, 9. The Matron of the Hospital desires to acknowledge with thanks the reoeipt of old linen from Mrs Shearman ; books, papers and periodicals from Miss Manning and Messrß Paul and Pattman, for the use of the inmates. The following is a list of letters received at the ABhburton Post Offioe from placed beyond the colony during the month of May, and remaining unclaimed en July Ist, 1888 ; — Eugene Heale, H. Hornfield, H. Knox and Thomas Stanton. At the bankruptcy sittings of the Supreme Court on Saturday at Christohuroh, Mr Justice Ward sentenced John Gilmour senior, a bacon curer, to four months' imprisonment for fraudulent bankruptcy. The evidence showed that he owed the Colonial Bank an overdraft of £2500, and had made erroneous statements to the bank as to his other liabilities. On the bank suing him for the amount he filed. At a meeting of the Ashburton County Hunt Club on Saturday night the date of the Btjepleohase Meeting was fixed for August 8. The following programme was adopted : — Handioap Hurdles, 15 soys ; Hunt 31ub Steeplechase Gup, 20 soys ; Selling Haok Race, 10 soys ; Maiden Steepleohase, 15 soys ; Huntere Flat Race, 15 bovb ; Selling Hunters' Steeplechase Handioap, 10 soys. Offioera were elected for the ensuing year, and Mr E. J. Fooks was appointed Seoretsry. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Tinwald Town Board was held at the Board's Offioe, Tinwald, on Friday, June 28. Present — Messrs Clark (m the ohair), Scott, Shearer, and Williams. The Chairman reported that two tenders had been received for shingling footpath m MoMurdo street and removing culvert and putting ford m lieu thereof near the Road Board Offioes, and he (the Chairman) and Mr Scott had aooepted the lowest tender— that of O. O'Connor at Is 9d per yard for the shingle and £3 10s for the ford. The aotion was approved. Correspondence was read from the Ashburton County Counoil informing the Board that the aum of £2 was available for poisoned grain. It was resolved to prooure some grain. Messrs A. Curtis and Makeig interviewed the Board and presented a petition from the residents m Carter's terrace praying that some small improvements should be done m this road. The matter of forming Grove street and shingling Wilkin street was left m the hands of the Chairman and Mr Soott. It was resolved to call for tenders for forming parts of Agnes and MoMurdo lireets, road from Sheep Dip to Mr Clark's gate, and cutting drain down centre of main drain along railway from Lagmhor road to Carter's Creek, It was resolved to ■hingle footpath along Carter's terraoe and clean side channels, oost not to exceed £6. After passing aooounts and transacting routine business, the meeting adjourned.
