Tuesday, June 26. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. THK CHINESE BILL. The report of the Committee appointed to draft reasons for insisting opon the Legislative Council's amendments m the Chinese Bill was adopted. IMPORTATION OT STOCK, On the motion of Mr Peter, It wai resolved that striot quarantine regulations recommended by the Australian Stock Oonferenoe, held at Sydney, m 1886, be adopted by New Zealand. raOPERTT TAX. On the motion of Mr Miller, It was resolved that a return be laid on the table showing what Increase of property tax reveoae would have beea receivable dar - log the past financial year if the exemptions had only excluded persons owning £1000 worth of property. SHEB? DEPARTMENT. * On the motion of Mr Johnson, it was agreed that a Seleot Committee be appointed to enqalre into the working of the Sheep Department, CRIMINAL CODE. The Criminal Code Bill was read a third time and passed. CHKISTOHURCH DRAINAGE BILL Tha debate on the second reading of the Christohnrch District Drainage Aot 1875. Amendment Bill was adjourned till Thursday. The Council rose at 4.45 p.m.
