Sydney, June 23. A Company has been floated to construct artisans' dwellings on the lines of Peabody's homes m London. A destructive bush fire, fanned by a heavy gale, is raging m the Kiama district. Eight miles of country is on fire, and several accidents have occurred m which persons have been injured and one life has been lost. A difficulty has arisen with the Wharf Laborers' Union, who demand fifteen pence per hour for lumping bags of chaff. They say their action is necessitated by the course pursued by New Zealand shippers m sendjng over produce m extraordinarily large bags. Other Trades Unions are supporting the Wharf Laborers' Union, and a series of complications is likely to arise m shipping circles, The Maritime Labor Unions intend taking a firm stand on the Chinese question, and a difficulty is anticipated on the arrival of the mail steamer Alameda from San Francisco next week, when it is believed the Unions will refuse to work the ship if the Chinese cre.w are not removed.
