THE LATE EMPEROR.
London, Jane 19. The Marquis of Salisbury, Mr Gladstone, and Mr W. H, Smith, m referring to. his death, highly eulogised the late Emperor Frederick. Addresses of condolence to the Empress have baen adopted m both branches of the Legislature, Salutes were fired to-day and fl «gs lowered half-mast as a mark of respept to the late Emperor. Speaking on the address of condolence, the Marquis of Salisbury rendered homage to one of the highest and noblest monarchs who ever reigned. He had shown under singular trials a spirit which made him a famous example, valuable to sovereigns and men of all conditions. Lord Granville seconded the address. In the Housa of Commons Mr Smith said England had watched the wife's conduct of affection with pride. Mr Gladstone said the memories of the deceased formed a great and noble patrimony for the German people. The Marquis of Harrington supported the Address. Vienna, June 18. . The funeral passed off uneventfully. The Emperor William telegraphed to his Holiness the Pope notifying the death of the Emperor Frederick. The Prince of Wales followed abreast with the Emperor William and the King of Saxony and General Von M^QJtke headecj t'ne procession 1 of generals. Prince Bismarck was qnable to be present. The Dowager Enppress Victoria b,ent oyer the cofsn before the final dirge. The Emperor William has issued a proclamation which states he assumes the Government looking towards the King oi Kings, and prays that he may be a just and clement prince, and that he may foster piety, guard over the pe&ee 9 promote the welfare of tl^e land, be ahelpecitothe poorand distressed, and be a firm guardian of all that is right.
