ASHBURTON TRADESMEN'S RAGING CLUB.
The annual meeting of tie Ashbarton Tradesmen's Racing Club w»a held m the Commercial Hotel last evening. There were present : Measri P. Wllllama (Chairman), M. Friedlande*. W. J. Hayw, R. M. Cuthbertson, G. 0. Primmer, J. 0. Duncan, J. Purchase, J. Tasker, J. Corrl* gan, and G. Blssstt, Secretary. RUPOBT AND BALANCE-SHEET. The Chairman read the, report and balance-sheet as follows :— Gentlemen,— ln presenting the annual re* port and balance-sheet the Committee have great pleasure m congratulating the Club upon the success of the season's operations. The season commenced with a credit balanoo of £5 14a 7d m cash. At the present tima the oredit balanoe|is £46 133 104 m oash In the Bank of New Zealand. The Committee thank those who entered and ran horses at the meeting, for the sup* port given to the Club's effort to provide sport for local ownerß ; also all tho3e who kindly assisted m the carrying out of the meeting, especially Mr QuiUi-i handicapper, and Mr O'Brien, starter. The future operations of the Club must depend to a considerable- extent upon the action taken by Parliament, and Metropolitan Qlubs with referepce to the use of the totaliaa* tor. We suggest that the Club should maka it a recommendation to the incoming Cam* mittee to keep & watch upon the actions of the Legislature, and take oars that the olaims of this Club, aa the provider of legitimate raoing for the district, are not overlooked. The stakes given by the Club are retained m the district, and not competed for by small fields of ontside horses belonging to professional racing men. The Committee suggest that the balanoa be placed on fixed deposit for six months with suoh institution aa this meeting may .approve. , In moving the adoption of the. report the Chairman Bald there was reason fot thankfulness that the finances were ia tach i sound oondltlpn . After discussion on the balance-sheet, Mr Outhbertßon seconded the adoption of the report, which waa carried, '. ~ . DTPIOEKS. Frledlander, and J. Corrigan. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the retiring officers and ocmmlttee, an^ to Mr Henry for the use of toe Club room.
