One speaker said that Melbourne capitalits had made arra»gemenis to buy the coming crop of Californian barley, and had instructed agents to ship m time to forestall the Victorian harvest. The Commissioner of Customs, m replying, said he would inquire into the truth of the statements. With reference to the increased duties, he feared any increase of the kind indicated would involve intercolonial trade proposals, which might militate against the union of the colonies. The matter would receive the full consideration of the Cabinet at an early date. Captain Schutr, of the steamer Excelsior, has been committed for trial on a charge of manslaughter.
