ADVANTAGES OF CRUSHED OATS

■■ ■» A most Important experiment hss lately been made by the London Omuibas Company, who are owners of 6000 horses, ond the eabjeot of crashed v whole food. One-half of the horaea are oonfioed to one kind of feeding, v z that of crashed oats and cat hay and straw, and the othe: half to whole outs and hoy. The ration allowed per dny to each horee. according to the one syntem was — Bruised oata, 16 lbs ; oat hay 7£ lbs ; cat straw 2£ lha. The quantity allowed, according to the old system was— Unbralaed oats, 19 lbs; nnoat hay, 13 lbs. There is thns a saving of 6 lbs on the feeding of each horse, and this saving is not merely m the quantity, bat m the value of the articles employed, for straw m tho formar case waa substituted for hay m the latter. The advantage of one kind of feeding over the othe? was far more apparent when redaoed to money value. The saving by using the braised oats and cat hay is nearly 2£d per day for each horae, which is equal to £62 10) per day for the 6000 horses. And thta saving was accomplished without any sacrifice whatever, for all the drivers and those having charge of the horses agreed that the difference m the oondition of thg horsti was deoldedly m favor of theme fed on bruised oata and cat hay and straw.
