THE ESCAPE OF ROBERTS.
The police are still scouring the port hills for Jonathan Roberts. The on'y trace of the fugitive was found by an artilleryman, who discovered footprints m the snow on the top of the range abov« Port Levj on Friday night. He traced them for a considerable distance, but finally lost them at a heap of rocks, which it ia supposed Roberts climbed m order to break the trail. Considerable sympathy is expressed for him on account of his daring and adroitness, as well as frc m the fact that he tried to live honestly after his first escape, and from the feeling that his sentence of five years for horse - stealing was ton severe
