[PER PREBB ASSOCIATION. J London, May 31. Sir Jas. Fergassoo, replying to Mr Henniker Heaton, said the documents bearing on the Chinese question would be laid on the table of the House shortly. He was not aware these documents had been published m Australia. Mr Henniker Heaton, m a letter to the "Times," states that by forcing the Colonies to co-operate with the Chinese, Lord Knutsford is creating an Australian United States. He considers that it would be better to confer with Australia, and give the Colonies a voice m the treaties which affect their interests. Sydney, Jane 1. The Supreme Court to-day decided that Chinamen naturalised m Victoria could only be held to be British subjects so far as that colony was cob* cerned, and could not, therefore, land m New South Wales without paying the poll tax prescribed by law. Melbourne, Jane I. A Chinese passenger by the Afghan, who was prevented landing, has issued a writ against the Collector of Customs claiming p£io,ooo damages. If the suit should prove successful eleven other cases will follow. (Reoelved June 2, 1 45 p.m.) Stdney. Junef Colonel Morgan, the American Consul- General, is of opinion that the American-Chinese Treaty is practically inoperative, as the Chinese are only precluded from landing m America for the firat time, but does not prevent Chinamen visting China and returning on exemption certificate. He considers that Australia's difficulty is the same as America's, viz., the trafficking m exemption and naturalization papers. (Received June 2, 2 p.m.) Government are m receipt of information that twenty-two Chinamen have entered Victoria across the border of New South Wales, having been landed m Twofold bay by a steamer which left Sydney Steps are being taken to confirm the information.
