(Per Press Association.; BVDOTSY. May 28, . The steamer Chang Sha, from China, has a number of Chinese passengers for New Zealand. There are 3 booked for Lyttelton, 43 for Greymouth, 5 for Dunedin, and 9 for Wellington. Melbourne, May 28. Arrangements are now nearly completed to hold the Chinese, Conference about the middle of June, the general feeling of the several Governments being m favor of the Conference meeting m Sydney. The actual date of meeting has not yet definitely been fixed, as it is not icnown when the New Zealand delegates will arrive. Wellington, May 28. Government have reoeived a letter from a Wellington firm stating tbat the writers had reoeived a cable message from Sydney to the effect that the steamer Ohang Sha arrived there with 60 Chinamen on board, bound for New Zealand ports, and requesting from Government permission for the Union Company to send the Celestials on by the Wakatipu. The application runs counter to the understanding arrived at between the Government and the Union Oompany that, provided they, were allowed to get rid of the Te Anau shipment of 78 Chinese, by plaolng them on the Wareatea, which was only entitled by the mailne law to carry four sueh 'passengers, they would bring no more Ohinamen from Australia to New Zealand ports The matter Is under the consideration of Government. [It has been Intimated that the Government has refused to grant the application of the Union Company.] ■ - S3
