PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.

♦ — (From otjb own Correspondent.) Weilhtgton, May 28. In referenoe to my message of Wednesday last, regarding the reoeipt of a cable menage from the Imperial authorities to the effect that war was imminent, lam assured by my original informant, who is a leading member of tbe House, that bis information was quite eorreot ; tbat suoh a message waa reoelved by the Governor ; and that the faot was mentioned by one of the Ministry to a member early m May, Tbe question which was asked by Mr Fulton on the subject was by request of Ministers, to give them an opportunity to deny it, bat I have every reason to believe my original communication waa quite correct. Wellington, May 29. It appears probable now from aft that I can learn that the Hare ay stent In to be dropped by the Government on the ground tbat members oannot or will not understand it. Ministers state that such pressure has been brought to bear upon them tbat they feel forced to drop the measure, and though it U likely to be on the Order Paper to-day it is not likely to be moved. It is also expected to be withdrawn. It Ib stated tbat Ministers bava settled their little difference and have deoided on a programme to be put before the House. It is generally stated that the Statement will be delivered to-night, but Ministers are very quiet upon the point and refuse to state their intentions. Of course they direotly refuse to give any information as to the Tar.ff, but rumor has it that there will be no duty on tea or otber artiolea of the breakfast table, and that the Property Tax will not be interfered with, but that deficiencies will be made up on other Items of tariff. Great ucoertalnlty is still (2 30) manifested aa to whether the Finanoial Statement will be delivered to-day or not, Ministers absolutely deollne to state whether or not lt will come down, but the Government whip informs me tbat Sic H. Atkinson hmajast told him that he does not know himself yet.
