CORN EXCHANGE.
« : The following ia the Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday, May 25th, 1888 :— The deliveries by rail have fallen off oon. siderably, the rains of the past week having sent the threshers to their winter quarters. Gables from London show a slight improvement. The scarcity of space here, however, prevents any advancement m the local market. The vessels now on the berth are fully engaged, and enquiries are being made for expected arrivals. Wheat. — -Tusoan wheat has been m slightly better request, and sales of prime lines have been made at 2s 9d, whilst Pearl is wanted by local millers, and commands an equal prioe. Hunter's varies a good daaUin quality, the best lines reaching 2s 7£d, slightly inferior grades 2s 6d to 2s 7d. Chicken £ wheat is offering plentifully, and is Boaroely as brisk aa it was ; Is lOd to 2s for broken, and 2s 3d for whole wheat. Oats.— A Btrong demand exists for good short lines fit for milling, and 2s has been paid for choice lots. Short feed are worth Is lOd to Is lid. The long and inferior descriptions are not offering m large quantities at Is 8d to Is 9d. Barley. — The malaters complain that their malt is going off too slow, consequently they are not anxious to add to their present stook?, choice lines, however, command 4s 2d to 4s 3d ; minimum quality is being quitted at 3s 6d to 3s 9d, feed la lOd to 2a 2d. Beahs.— Sales have been made at 2s 6d to 2s 7d. Peas. — Blues are commanding 2a Sd to 2g Bd, feed eoria 2s 2d to 2a 3d. Gbass Seed.— Rye grass ia without alteration, and prices are nominal, Is 8d to 2s for farmers' parcels, and 2a 6d to 2s 9d for machine dressed. Cocksfoot has been a little more lively, and there is a good inquiry for heavy feed at 31d to Ski, second rate seed 2£d to 2|a. Potatoes. — The market is exceedingly dull, and it is with difficulty 20s can be obtained at country stations; outside markets are more or less glutted. Daiby Produce. — Butter is m Btrong demand, 7d being freely given for a good article. Ohecße is a little bettor, but prices remain at last week's valu.es. The above prloes are those paid to farmers, and delivered f.o.b. Lyttelton (exoept pota* toes.)
