Shortly af corwards Mr Taok was told that the agent was very aurry, but he would not be able to take him to Melbourne ; and at the last moment Mr Taok, *lth hit wife, ohlldren, and baggage, were put on to the wharf. (Cries of " Shame.") He (Mr Brown) weut to the Sydney office of Messrs Howard Smith aud Sons, and asked the manager the reason for this action, and the manager replied that the V/otorian Government had passed a law providing that any vessel with even a single Chinese on board Bhotild be quarantined. Notwithstanding that Mr Taok wus a minister they oould not take him, as they were not prepared to risk £1000 to fight the Victorian Government. It subsequently transpired that the Rev Mr T«ck nad been aUovrecl to travel over» land.
