The Houee resumed at 7 30 p.m. EMPLOYMENT OF FEMALES Mr Hutchison moved the second read' ing of the Employment of Females and Others Act Amendment Bill, which provides that females employed m any establishment or plao6 of business shall not be employed for more than eight houiß per day, The motion wan agreed to. OALIFORNIAN THISTLE. Mr McKei zie (OJuiba) moved the second rending of the Oalifornian Thistle Eradicatieu Bill. He quoted from several authorities to show that the Californlan thistle was one of the greatest pests that could be introduced into the colony. He should be [/lad to accept amendments In Committee, The motion was agreed to. DIVORCE. Mr Samuel moved the second reading of the Divorce Extension and Amendment Bill. He explained that adnltory, attempt to murder, or deserting for acven years were sufficient onuses under the Bill for petitiono for divorce. It alao provided that eentences for crime and Imprisonment for life, or seven years or upwards, were sufficient grounds for petition. Hh was willing to accept two amendments suggested m the Bill, v'z , that it should not be retrospective, and that the petition should be filled m a Btatcd time after the acts complained of were committed. EDUCATIONAL FRANCHISE BILL. ■ The House went into Committee on the Educational Franchise Bill. Clause 2, re-defining householder to mean and include every person whoso nams? appears on the electoral roll for the General Assembly who resides within the limits of tho school district, and parents and guardians of all children attending Echool. Mr Fish moved that this clause bo Btruck out. Mr Levoetam moved oa a further amendment that householder should mean every adult person residing m the district and any parent or guardian of a child attonding tohool m the district. Agreed to. Mr Fioh's amendment was lost, Mr Monk moved m clause 4 (list of nomination) tho portion of a clause making it lawful, but not obligatory, for any School Committee to publish a list of nominations m any newspaper or newepapors circulated m the school district. Mr Monk's amendment was agreed to on the voices. Mr Marohant moved to strike out the proviso which stated that every hou«eholder may ezeroise as many votes ob there are persons required to be elected or any lees number of votes, but no householder shall be entitled to reoord more than one vote for any one candidate Amendment lost by 25 to 18, and the proviso retained. The Bill was reported with amendments, which were ordered to bo considered on Wednesday next. The House adjourned at 1.55 a.m. till Friday.
