CORN EXCHANGE.

The following is tho Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday, May 13th, 1888 :— The weather during the past week haß benn exceedingly unpleasant, and has had the effeot of shortening deliveries of grain very materially, many of the threshing maohines having already gone into their winter quarters. Ploughing is being pushed on with, and there is an occasional inquiry for seed wheat. Freight to London is now obtainable, but rates are still against shippers. Wheat — English cables show an improved tendency for Australian cargoes, but at present no advance baa taken place locally, although perhaps buyers are more disposed to operate. Tuscan ranges from 2s 8d to 2s 9d. Pearl is selling at 2s 7£d to 2a Bd, and Hunters 2s 7d to 28 7^d. Many samples are at present unsaleable on account of oondition. Oats. — A strong demand still exists, especially for the short heavy descriptions which are realising Is lOd to Is lid. Long kinds are quiet with few offering at Is 8d to la 93. Barley. — Malsters being supplied prices have been easier. The quantity, however, offering is not large, and the quality is generally second-olass. Sa'es have been made for medium at 3s 9dto 4s, prime being nominally 4s 2d to 4s 4d, feed aorta are valued at Is Od to 2s Id. Beans.— Sales at 2s 6d to 2a 7d for small lines. Peas — Prussian Blue, 2s 7d to 2s 8d ; feed, 2s to 2s 4d. Grass Seed.— Byegraaß is without life, and prices nominally are same as last week. Cocksfoot has hardened slightly, and 3jd is now being freely paid for good farmers parcels. Potatoes are very low, Lirge quantities have been sold at 20s at country stations. Dairy Proddoe. — Butter has come into strong request, and 6Jd to 7d is b ing given for ohoice lots. The market is becoming bare. Cheese — Some small paroels h&ve been placed at 3|d for small sizes, 3d being the average value of larger lines. The above prices are those paid to farmers for delivery f.o.b. Lyttelton, saoks extra.
