He cmsidered that Australia was justified In the aotion she had taken m connection with the Chinese difficulty, and thought It waa the duty of thla colony to oooperate. He was decidedly opposed to the railway between Auckland and Wellington as being premature. Sir George Whltmore spoko In similar terms to the laat Bpeaker. Dr Graoe briefly referred to the financl*l condition of the colony. He was sure there was a bright future for the Industrial and economical classes. Mr McLean hoped that the North Island Railway would bd stopped, He urged Government to ba careful In their disposal of land In oonneotlon with the Midland: Railway. The debate was adjourned, and the Council rose at 5 o'olock till 2 30 p.m. on Wednesday.
