VICTORIA.
Melbourne, May 10. The Rev E. S. Symonds (sic) has been elected President of the Wesleyan Conference. Mr Irving of San Francisco, has written to Government stating that he has discovered a method of exterminate ing rabbits by means of inoculation. Captain Whitney, who had been endeavoring to arrange with the', New South Wales Government for the establishment of a federated cartridge factory m Australia, having failed to come to any satisfactory agreement, is now making enquiries as to the support he is likely to receive from the Victorian Government. A goods train this afternoon ran into a temporary siding on the new line, near Fotunga, and collided with a number of coal trucks, and wrecked a building which was built over the line. Four waggons were thrown off the rails and the men on them had a miraculous escape. The Victorian Government have arranged for a parcel post to continental cities by the German Lloyd line of steamers.
